As the cultural center of the Northwest, Seattle’s arts and entertainment scene offers something for everyone – and Horizon House is in the middle of the action. Residents can easily catch a movie, take in a play, enjoy an author event or poetry reading, hear some live music, or choose between several museums conveniently close to our location. Look through the list below and decide how you’d like to spend your day or evening:
Movie Houses
- Big Picture – Upscale cinema with seat-side drink delivery; catch a scheduled flick or book it for meetings and parties.
- Cinerama – Paul Allen’s place with super-comfy seats and elevated concessions in Belltown.
- Meridan 16 – New releases at 7th & Pike.
- Northwest Film Forum – Year ‘round screening of art films, on Capitol Hill.
- Paccar IMAX Theater – 3D films at the Pacific Science Center.
- AMC (Pacific Place) 11 – New releases at 6th & Pine .
- SIFF Cinema Egyptian – Art-house theater in a vintage space on Capitol Hill; Seattle International Film Festival also shows at the Uptown and in the Seattle Center.
Music, Dance & Spoken Word
- Benaroya Hall – Grand, state-of-the-art music venue with two halls, home of the Seattle Symphony, downtown.
- Elliott Bay Books – Author events and readings, not to mention an amazing selection of new and used books, Capitol Hill.
- Jazz Alley – Intimate downtown venue for all varieties of jazz, plus bar and restaurant.
- McCaw Hall – Home of Pacific Northwest Ballet & Seattle Opera, at the Seattle Center.
- Triple Door – Intimate downtown music venue, across from Benaroya Hall, showcasing jazz, rock, R&B, you name it.
Museums
- Frye Art Museum – 19th & 20th-century works by American & European painters plus a range of rotating exhibitions, First Hill.
- Klondike Gold Rush Museum – National Park Service site celebrating one of the historical events that put Seattle on the map, Pioneer Square.
- MOHAI – Museum of History & Industry – Seattle’s story, from before the Denny Party landed to the city’s latest innovations, South Lake Union.
- MOPOP – Museum of Pop Culture – Music, sci-fi, modern art, and Frank Gehry’s swoopy architecture, at the Seattle Center.
- SAM’s Sculpture Garden – Magnificent outdoor installations overlooking the Waterfront.
- Seattle Aquarium – Popular spot for families offers an underwater viewing dome, coral-reef tank, otters & a touch-tank.
- Seattle Art Museum (SAM) – Spacious downtown home for art from pre-history to the modern day, superb Asian and African collections, with restaurant and gift shop.
- Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience – Where Asian American history and culture come alive, International District.
Theatre
- 5th Avenue – 1926 Vaudeville Theatre with an ornate, Chinese inspired interior now hosting musicals, downtown.
- ACT Theatre – Local theatre hosts contemporary plays, cabaret, music, dance, spoken word, film, visual art & more, downtown.
- Book-It – Stage adaptations of great literary works, at the Seattle Center.
- Intiman – Summer festival of plays both traditional and bold, with a focus on local artists, at the Seattle Center.
- Moore Theatre – Built in 1907, the Moore is Seattle’s oldest operating theatre and presents a variety of entertainment, from music, to dance, to theatre.
- Paramount – A grand 1928 theatrical palace, today it’s home to Broadway shows, music, and comedy; the original “Mighty Wurlitzer” organ still accompanies Silent Movie Mondays, downtown.
- Seattle Rep – 50 years of repertory theatre and still going strong, with a mix of innovative new work and cherished classics, at the Seattle Center.
