Residents’ Council at Horizon House

Horizon House residents want to live life their way. That’s why we don’t employ a program director who makes decisions about activities and events. The residents themselves are the leaders and decide what they want to do, to the tune of over 60 committees covering a wide variety of interests and passions.

How Residents Do What They Do

The Horizon House Resident’s Council is comprised of 15 members elected by residents and is the governing body for all resident committees. As a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, it self-funds the many activities through proceeds from its fabulous Monday Market thrift store, which is also open to the public. While the Residents’ Council provides the organization, budgeting, and operating guidelines, the residents themselves design and manage their own programs.

There are so many ways to be involved at Horizon House, whether it’s chairing a committtee,  immersing yourself in the arts, participating in civic engagement, or enjoying lively discussions with fellow residents.

The Monday Market: Heartbeat of Horizon House

Come shopping with us! Residents, staff, and visitors score amazing finds at the Monday Market, including jewelry, art, furniture, clothing, and more. And all at great prices. With proceeds nearing the $100,000 mark, that’s a lot of support for resident-generated activities.

The Monday Market raises funds for resident programs, but it also provides a social space for friends to meet and chat, not to mention being a valuable resource for those moving into Horizon House. New residents can purchase items or donate items no longer needed when they downsize.
