Wellness programs for body, mind, and spirit.

Wellness at Horizon House isn’t prescribed—it’s self-directed. Whether you’re drawn to fitness, terrace gardening, or spiritual discussion groups, you choose your own journey to vitality. Our holistic approach honors the connection between physical health, intellectual engagement, and emotional well-being. The programs, spaces, and support are here, and more importantly, so is the culture.

Whole-person well-being is central to life at Horizon House. Our approach integrates movement, nature, and inner reflection to support independence, purpose, and connection.

Comprehensive wellness resources include:

  • 24/7 gym with personal training and specialized equipment
  • Saline pool and aquatic center for low-impact exercise
  • BEAM Program for balance, fall prevention, and mobility
  • Terrace gardens and environmental initiatives
  • Spiritual support and discussion groups for all backgrounds
  • Fitness classes including Zumba, yoga, tai chi, and water aerobics

Staying active is essential to maintaining independence and vitality, and it looks different for everyone. You’ll find a variety of ways to keep moving, from structured classes to self-guided workouts with state-of-the-art equipment (and a little help if you need it).

Open 24 hours, the fitness center features weight-training equipment, treadmills, and elliptical machines. Our wellness team provides equipment guidance and offers customized fitness training. Staff are available Monday through Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Instructor-led classes include Zumba, tai chi, yoga and more, all taught by wellness professionals who understand that movement isn’t one-size-fits-all.

The saline pool offers instructor-led water aerobics and open swim for laps. Low-impact exercise that’s easy on joints, with a peaceful spa for post-workout relaxation.

The BEAM Program integrates personal fitness, lifestyle considerations, and specialized training to reduce fall risks. Each participant receives a personalized assessment and tailored program designed to support successful aging and maintain independence.

Nature is woven into daily life at Horizon House. Resident-led gardening and environmental initiatives provide therapeutic outlets, social connection, and a commitment to sustainability.

Individual plots on our terrace gardens are planted and cared for by residents. Soil, tools, and hoses are supplied by the Garden Committee. An herb garden is available for everyone’s use, offering fresh ingredients and a shared space for cultivation. Because there’s just something deeply satisfying about growing your own tomatoes on the balcony of a high-rise.

The action-oriented Environment Committee collaborates with Horizon House administration to explore carbon neutrality. Composting and recycling systems that exceed industry standards, educational initiatives, and the beauty of resident-tended gardens reflect a commitment to sustainability that matters to those who live here.

Nestled adjacent to Horizon House, the lush greenery of Freeway Park offers a peaceful escape. Regular garden excursions and access to Pacific Northwest botanical beauty provide reasons for both solitude and companionship.

Emotional and spiritual health are vital to fulfillment at every stage of life. Horizon House honors all faiths, non-faiths and spiritual beliefs, offering meaningful support and learning opportunities.

Horizon House is affiliated with the United Church of Christ but welcomes residents of all religious and spiritual backgrounds and those with no religious background at all. Our Inner Wellbeing & Spirituality staff plan onsite worship services, celebrations for various faith traditions, and resident memorial services.

Our Inner Wellbeing & Spirituality staff are also available for individual meetings, providing emotional and spiritual support in a confidential, caring environment.
