The Outlook 2025: A Year of Living Well at Urban Seattle Retirement Community Horizon House

The 2025 edition of our community magazine The Outlook is here, capturing the best of another amazing year at Seattle’s most progressive retirement community. Part celebration, part annual report, it showcases the creativity, connection, accomplishments, and purpose that define independent living for independent thinkers. Here’s a little of what you’ll find:

Resident Art on Tour!

Horizon House residents and staff collaborated with Seattle artist Megan Prince to hand-crochet donated fabric into “Woven Together”—a fiber sculpture celebrating our connections to each other and the city we love. After months on display at Horizon House, the piece traveled throughout the Puget Sound region. Read its fascinating story and learn where you can see “Woven Together” now.

The Whole Community, Together

Whether you’re in Independent Living, Assisted Living, or Memory Care, you’re part of the same vibrant First Hill Life Plan Community. Horizon House residents from across the campus gather for David Kaynor’s compelling nature lectures, Eric Lane Barnes’s singalongs, Wednesday Night Live concerts, and Friday night art films.

Pride in Action

For the fourth year, residents, staff, and neighbors donned rainbow colors for our annual Pride Month parade through First Hill. Led by a banner reading “Everyone is Welcome Here,” the celebration brings to life what it means to live the Horizon House mission: purposeful living in a diverse community.

The Numbers Behind the Community

The annual report shows strong financial health and continued reinvestment in the community, with 82% of residents contributing to the endowment—a testament to how deeply they believe in this place.
