Sara McVey, Horizon House CEO, shares updates from her life inside and outside of Horizon House. Here’s what’s going on in Sara’s life this summer.
LeadingAge Washington honored Horizon House last week with a newly created category of the Shoestring Award. Marketing Manager Valerie Wagner went onstage to accept the honor as our staff person who provides leadership of planning marketing events for future residents. The Shoestring is meaningful to us because it reinforces our prudent stewardship of keeping our building full while not having to spend at the same level as other communities. Congratulations to the Marketing and Communications team who show endless creativity in keeping people interested in Horizon House while these future residents patiently wait for apartments to become available.
Co-Presenting on Culture at LeadingAge
Torsten Hirche, President and CEO of Transforming Age and I co-presented on the importance of fostering strong employee cultures at a recent LeadingAge conference in Spokane. Whether a single site or an organization with multiple locations – engaged staff who bring their best selves to work even when all conditions are not perfect is vital to our missions advancing.
We filled the room and even had a few willing to stand for the 90-minute session.
Sunny Saturday and a Super Stepdaughter
This past weekend was particularly brilliant for the weather was next to perfect and my 21-year-old stepdaughter Madison came for the weekend. She will be a senior in college (Colorado University) in the Fall and plans to graduate in four years (we are all so grateful).
Claire, age 19, is in Chicago for the summer. She will be a sophomore in the Fall and is getting paid big bucks to babysit four boys under the age of 10😊.
