Each month, Horizon House CEO Sara McVey provides Sara’s Snippets, a look into what’s happening at Horizon House and in her life.

Attendees are included (back row) Bruce Walker, Ned Lange, Allen Bentley, Betty Wagner, Jane Piehl, Susan Duffy, Susan Jones, Jim Fitzgerald, Diane Kenny, Nancy Edquist, Mike Ostrem, Sara McVey and (front row) Ann Sandstrom, Dudley Panchot, Doris Ray, Neil McReynolds, Jeannette Kahlenberg, Bill Andersen, Phyllis Lamphere.
Strategic Promise
Our strategic priorities for the next few years are strongly based on making the basics brilliant and performing with purpose, focusing on growing the capacity of staff to learn and contribute in ways that advance our mission enabling us to serve residents from diverse socio-economic backgrounds. This is an extension of our Fit for Growth mindset which is about getting ‘better’ not necessarily bigger.
Anderson Hall
PLA Designs has provided their assessment and will be reporting their findings to residents during October or November. The Board agreed the assessment is one element which must be considered in conjunction with design options and pricing which is not currently available as we paused work during July at the urging of Residents to consider more options and alternatives.
Given our phased approach and the primary emphasis being Supported Living and the addition of IL apartments, further discussions about future phases, including first-floor dining and Anderson Hall will resume during 2019.
Back to College Essentials
I visited Maddy (right) and Claire (left) at Boulder last weekend to get them some supplies as they begin another year of college at Boulder, Colorado University. It is hard to believe Maddy is graduating in May of 2019. Claire is a sophomore and is gearing up for a great year ahead. As a step person, who has known them since the age of three and five, they continue to make me smile and be proud of who they are and who they will be.
