Shayla Kilgannon, Horizon House’s Registered Dietitian Nutritionist, is a key resource in our focus on resident Holistic Health. Not only does she work with Dining Services on our Healthy Choices Buffet, she’ll increasingly center her efforts on Independent Living resident care by offering educational programs on nutrition and aging, along with individual consultations by appointment.
Shayla’s background and experience are a testament to Horizon House’s commitment to resident well-being. She earned a BA in Nutritional Sciences from Cornell University, and also completed a nationally-accredited dietetic internship in advance of her RDN credential. She’s a life-long learner, especially on topics regarding nutrition, and is currently working on an additional credential in Integrative and Functional Nutrition.
Shayla is also well-versed in the nutrient requirements for many chronic conditions such as heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, and more. She stays current on the latest nutrition research to provide the best information possible for those who trust her with their nutrition care. She says, “My passion is helping people make sense of the nutritional sea of information that exists out there!”
Outside of her work at Horizon House, Shayla is a lover of nature, a promoter of plant-based foods, a mad scientist in the kitchen, and a crazy cat lady.
