Our Neighborhood

Senior Living at its Best in Downtown Seattle

Starting very locally, Horizon House is in the First Hill neighborhood, which, as the name suggests, was Seattle’s first residential neighborhood. A couple of the stately homes that used to line its streets in horse and buggy days remain: Stimson-Green Mansion operated by the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation and Dearborn House headquarters for Historic Seattle. Beautifully landscaped Freeway Park, with its extensive public programming, is literally in our back yard. The Washington State Convention Center, located next to the park, offers an extensive public art collection with regularly changing exhibits. A walk west through the park brings you to downtown Seattle, the Pike Place Market, and the Waterfront. Walk south for the International District/Chinatown/Japantown and historic Pioneer Square where Seattle began. Head east and you’ll find yourself on Capitol Hill, a neighborhood burgeoning with bars, books, dining, and shopping. We’re conveniently close to great movie theaters, parks, playhouses, museums, and attractions, most of which are either walking distance, a public transit trip, or a short ride away.

We chose Horizon House because we knew people who lived here from early 2000. I started visiting people, so I come to dinner here. I go to people’s apartments. It was sort of a friendship program through church that I got involved with people here. We just really loved it, both my husband and myself—and said, this is where we want to be!”
