The ice cream social is one of the premier summer social events at Horizon House, hosted annually to celebrate the culmination of the Partners in Caring fundraising campaign. Residents, their families, staff, community members and local businesses make up the generous team that funds the Partners in Caring, a giving program that enhances the entire Horizon House community.
After a year filled with great sacrifice, it was a sweet treat to be able to host the event in-person outside on the Parkview Terrace and inside the Parkview Lounge. Residents and staff gathered together to build their delicious ice cream, complete with hot fudge, whipped cream and a cherry on top!
Our in-house philanthropy program supports the Residents Assistance Fund, Area of Greatest Need Fund, and Staff Scholarship Fund. The funds support the Horizon House community in the following ways:
- Residents Assistance Fund: Since 1961, this fund has been providing confidential aid to residents who, through no fault of their own, have outlived their assets. Thanks to this fund, these valued members of our community will always have a home at Horizon House.
- Area of Greatest Need Fund: This fund supports areas of greatest need outside of our regular operating budget and supports creative projects initiated by residents and staff.
- Employee Education Fund: This fund provides financial assistance to staff for education that goes beyond the scope of our standard on-the-job training.
We want to thank our staff and resident volunteers who came out to bring our community together, reminding us to smile and enjoy the summer bliss with good friends and good ice cream! Check out the pictures from the 2021 ice cream social below.
