Horizon House Announces Leadership Changes

Horizon House will usher in new leadership in September, as CEO Sara McVey announces a move to San Francisco.

Horizon House’s CEO Sara McVey is moving on. She has accepted the position of CEO at Sequoia Living, of a multi-site nonprofit organization in San Francisco. Horizon House is proud to announce that current CFO Mike Ostrem has accepted the position of CEO.

Sara joined Horizon House to be its CEO in 2015 and quickly became a valued part of our organization. Her deep commitment to the residents, staff, and mission has been manifested in her leadership and interaction with us all. It has also been evident in her success in developing an effective team leading our organization. She will be missed by us all.

“Horizon House has been my favorite hello and is now among my hardest goodbyes as I prepare to relocate to San Francisco,” says Sara. “My time here has been a highlight both personally and professionally. The Residents and Staff at Horizon House have touched my life in ways that raise the bar for whatever comes next.”

Beginning September 11, CFO Mike Ostrem will take on the role of CEO. Mike joined the organization in 2013 as CFO and assumed an expanded operational role with oversight of Facilities, Food Services, IT, and the Master Plan efforts.

“I am thrilled that Mike Ostrem will be assuming the role of CEO. He has been one of the finest CFOs I have worked with and he brings a lot of heart and humor to life and leadership at Horizon House,” says Sara.

Over the next month, Mike, Sara, and Health Services Officer Lauri Warfield-Larson will be working closely with staff to review reporting structures and identify how best to continue to support the organization and advance its mission. We assure you of our support as we work through this transition and move forward with the plans and tasks that will continue our success.
