The Monday Market is managed by two resident co-chairs and staffed by resident volunteers. The Market sell contributions of all manner of articles and provides a service to families vacating or moving into apartments. The proceeds fund the 70+ committees and special interest groups that make Horizon House the active and vibrant community that it is.
Downsizing for your move to Horizon House? Do you have things that won’t fit the space or the style of your new apartment? Donate them to the Monday Market!
The Monday Market is an upscale boutique thrift shop operated by and for the Residents’ Council. The Market’s revenue (usually around $80,000 annually) is the sole source of funding for all the activities sponsored by the Residents’ Council that make Horizon House such a dynamic place to live – outside speakers, musical performances, movies, artwork, flowers, books, hobby room equipment, games, parties, and more.
A virtual mini-department store, the Market displays and sells gently used furniture, household accessories, linens, glassware, framed artwork, office supplies, greeting cards, men’s and women’s clothing, jewelry, kitchen ware and small electronics – all donated by Horizon House residents. Shoppers are residents, staff, and the public. The Market is open every Monday from 9 am to 3 pm (cash and check only).
The Market is operated by co-directors appointed by the Residents’ Council, along with volunteers who work on Mondays in 2-hour shifts on the sales floor or at the cash register. Throughout the week, a team of volunteers work behind the scenes to sort, polish, and display merchandise.
We welcome your donations of clean items in very good condition for resale, either before or after your move. Please call our Front Desk (206-624-3700) and ask to speak to one of the co-directors to discuss what you’d like to donate and to plan for the Market to receive it.
Above all – please come to the Monday Market to shop, donate, or volunteer. It’s fun and is a great way to meet people here in Horizon House!
